FAQ When Choosing Pet Hotel or Pet Host Family

pet sitterQ. How do I get more information and start the process of planning a sleepover for my dog?

A. The easiest way to begin is to contact us by phone or by email. Our coordinator will contact you after we receive your information to answer any questions you may have and walk you through the process of how planning a sleepover for your pet works.

Q. How do you select the host families?

A. First we ask prospective hosts a series of questions in a phone interview to determine if they qualify. We know what questions to ask and screen out eight out of ten applicants during this first step. Next, we conduct a second, even more thorough screening interview. Third, we personally visit each host family at their home. We conduct a final phase interview and inspect their home and yard, and answer all of their questions. Less than five percent of interested applicants go on to become certified. We only certify those people to whom we would entrust our own dogs - and we are very choosy!

Q. Will I meet the host who will care for my dog?

A. Absolutely! When a pet parent establishes an account and plans a sleepover our coordinators ask a series of questions to identify the particular needs of the pet and his family. The coordinator uses that information to select a host family that best meets those needs. Then the coordinator arranges a telephone interview between the pet parent and the host. If both the host and the pet parent are satisfied with the preliminary match, the host invites the client over to meet them in their home for a FREE, no obligation previsit. When the match is approved, our coordinator will work with you to complete the reservation and secure the host for the dates you need.

Q. Do you offer pick-up and drop-off service?

A. Although we offer a pick-up and drop-off service to our pet parents, we encourage them to drop off their pets themselves for the first visit. That way they can meet the host in person and see the home in which their pet will stay. We also encourage all of our pet parents to leave their pet for one day of daycare with the host family before leaving the pet for any extended period of time.

Q. Does Sleepover Rover offer daycare services?

A. Yes, we do! We also have monthly daycare packages available!

Q. Who do I pay and what means of payment do you accept?

A. All our host families are under contract with Sleepover Rover Inc. The way our relationship works is they focus 100% of their attention on caring for the dogs they host and we take care of everything else for them; advertising, reservations, payment, the client agreement etc. Checks may be made payable to Sleepover Rover, Inc. Payment is due when service is contracted. We also accept MasterCard and Visa.

Q. May I offer a gratuity to my pet host?

A. Yes, you may offer it directly to your sitter or include it with your payment to Sleepover Rover, Inc. 100% of gratuities go to your pet host.

Q. What is your cancellation policy?

A. We give a full refund, less $25 if you notify us 14 days prior to the beginning of your pet’s stay.  This policy is to ensure our host families have ample time to book those dates with another client and because they frequently decline personal activities for the dates you secure in order to be home to care for your pet.

Q. Does Sleepover Rover, Inc. ever share my information with any other company or individual?

A. We honor your trust by keeping all your information private. We do not share information with any other company or organization. Your credit card transactions are processed through our secure Bank of America site.

Q. Will I have the same pet host for future sleepovers?

A. You may request the same pet host for future sleepovers. If that host is available at the time you need them, we will honor that request.

Q. What happens if my pet becomes ill or injured?

A. In any emergency, we will always try to reach you or your emergency contact immediately. Furthermore, before you leave your pet with the host, we will record your instructions for emergencies including emergency veterinary care. We require that you keep a credit card number on file in the event of unforseen emergencies. If necessary, your pet host or a representative from Sleepover Rover, Inc will take your dog to the veterinarian and coordinate the care necessary - just as you would yourself.

Q. Is there a way for you to keep in touch with us, just to let us know everything is ok?

A. Absolutely! Your pet host can keep in touch through email or voicemail or you may call them directly while you're away. Some host families have skype accounts for you to see your pet via live streaming video. Your peace of mind is very important to us!
